Say it Loud, Say it Often, "Republicans are Bad on National Security"

Every Democrat running for national office - and local offices too, why not? - should say, "I'm running because Republicans are bad on national security."

Then they should go on to say, here's why I'm saying it:

Brand X

If we know anything from the 2004 election, we know that branding is as essential to politics as it is to selling detergents, cars and perfume.

The Bush campaign branded Kerry as a flip-flopper and soft on terror. Kerry failed to brand Bush as anything. And the chicken-hawk defeated the war hero.

Failure is Not an Option!

Failure is Not an Option! It Comes Standard with Every Bush Model!

On every policy we make!
Name a policy, and it's got failure! Guaranteed! Or your government back!

Fear the Penis

This was written in October, 2006, when the Mark Foley hitting on male congressional pages broke.

It is being reposted in August, 2008. Right after the John Edwards sex scandal came out.
Readers should feel free to mentally substitute Edwards for Foley. It works in most places.

Federal Confidential

Scooter Libby has revealed that the only difference between Top Secret and something it would be good for the public to know can be one man's whim.
All of the commentary, so far, has been, 'oh, isn't it shocking! The naughtiness of leaking goes right to the top!'

Foleyisms

Trusting our nation's security to Republicans is like trusting your son to Mark Foley

Giving the Republicans the keys to the treasury is like giving Mark Foley the keys to the boy's dorm.

Trusting the budget to Republicans is like sending Mark Foley on vacation to Thailand.

Letting Republicans make environmental regulations is like letting Mark Foley set the boy's dress code.

Letting Republicans run a war is like having Mark Foley teach chastity.

Give George Bush His War

"Rallied by Bush, Skittish G.O.P Now Embraces War as an Issue," is the front page story in the NY Times today.

That's a story that the White House wants us to know. How do we know they want us to know it? For one thing, it was written by Jim Rutenberg of the Washington Bureau of the NY Times.

The Blame Industry

When things go wrong, someone will be blamed.

It's not a question of should, or if it's right or if it's good. It's what will happen. Iraq has gone wrong. Someone will be blamed.

The Great Experiment in (Neo-con) Freedom

God bless our Neo-cons. They believe in Freedom. With a capital F. They believe that government is the enemy of Freedom.

What It Means To Be A Republican

The vice president shoots you in the heart and in the face. Then you apologize for all the trouble it's caused him. That's what it means to be a Republican.
